Sri Vijaya Puram, Oct. 14: People interested in aquaculture in South Andaman can apply for a four-day technical training programme on brackish water farming, with a focus on shrimp production and cage culture, scheduled from October 28 to 31, 2026. The application deadline is October 23.
The Department of Fisheries will conduct the programme under Skill Development Intervention AN-12 of the Raising and Accelerating MSME Performance (RAMP) Scheme, in collaboration with the ICAR–Central Institute of Brackishwater Aquaculture (ICAR-CIBA), Chennai.
The training aims to build participants’ technical knowledge of brackish water aquaculture, particularly scientific methods for shrimp farming and techniques used in cage culture. The programme will focus on practices relevant to these forms of aquaculture.

Applicants can collect the prescribed forms from their respective Zonal Fisheries Offices or the Fisheries Training Centre at Marine Hill. They must submit completed applications, along with the required supporting documents, to either of these designated locations by October 23, 2026.
The department has set the deadline to allow interested participants to complete the application process before the training begins. Applicants should ensure that they submit the prescribed form and all relevant documents within the stipulated period.
The programme falls under the RAMP Scheme’s skill development intervention, which supports the training initiative in collaboration with ICAR-CIBA. The department has made provision for travelling allowance (TA) and daily allowance (DA) for trainees, subject to the approved budgetary provisions under the scheme.
The training offers interested participants an opportunity to strengthen their understanding of shrimp farming and cage culture through a programme led by the Fisheries Department and the Chennai-based research institute.
Those planning to attend should approach their nearest designated fisheries office or the Marine Hill training centre to obtain the application form and complete registration before the deadline.
