Sri Vijaya Puram, October 3: Sports participation and community engagement took centre stage in Sri Vijaya Puram on Friday as the Andaman Association of Tour Operators (AATO) held a badminton tournament for its members at the APWD Multipurpose Badminton Hall.
The event brought together members from across the association, with competitions conducted in singles, doubles and junior categories. Members and their families participated actively, giving the tournament a focus on sporting involvement and fellowship within the association.
AATO President M. Vinod said the association placed importance on encouraging sports and greater participation among young people. He said sporting activities support physical fitness while also providing opportunities for members to build camaraderie and strengthen bonds of brotherhood.

The range of categories allowed the programme to include different groups within the association. The participation of juniors alongside other members also reflected the emphasis placed on encouraging younger participants to engage in sports.
The tournament formed part of AATO’s efforts to create opportunities for members to come together through activities beyond their professional responsibilities. The event also involved families, extending participation beyond the association’s membership and adding a community dimension to the gathering.

AATO General Secretary Saikat Biswas thanked members for their participation and support in organising the tournament. He acknowledged the youthful spirit shown by participants during the event and said AATO would continue to promote sports and conduct more sporting programmes.
According to Biswas, future sporting events would seek to strengthen fellowship and community engagement among AATO members. His remarks followed the association’s emphasis on sports as a means of supporting fitness and relationships among participants.
The tournament concluded with AATO reaffirming its focus on fitness, sportsmanship and stronger ties within the tourism fraternity. The event brought members, juniors and families together around sporting activity, while reinforcing the association’s commitment to continued sports participation and fellowship.
