Sri Vijaya Puram, October 3: People across the Andaman and Nicobar Islands have been advised to seek immediate medical care after a snakebite, with polyvalent anti-snake venom available at health facilities across the Union Territory and qualified Medical Officers available round the clock for treatment.
The polyvalent anti-snake venom is stocked at all Primary Health Centres, Community Health Centres, the District Hospital and the Referral Hospital in the islands. The treatment covers all kinds of snakebite cases found in the region, according to the information issued for the public.
The health system recorded 633 snakebite cases during the financial year 2025–26, covering cases reported through both outpatient and inpatient departments across the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Despite the number of cases reported, no death due to snakebite was recorded during the year.

The availability of anti-snake venom and continuous access to medical officers form part of the snakebite management system in place across the islands. Qualified Medical Officers remain available 24×7 at the identified healthcare facilities to treat people presenting with snakebite cases.
The administration has urged the public not to delay seeking professional medical attention following a snakebite. People have been advised to approach the nearest healthcare facility without delay so that treatment can be provided promptly.
The public advisory comes with snakebite cases continuing to be reported across the islands, while the healthcare network maintains access to the required anti-snake venom and medical personnel at primary, community, district and referral levels.
Residents have therefore been asked to use the available healthcare facilities immediately in the event of a snakebite rather than delaying medical attention.
