Sri Vijaya Puram, Sept. 5: Livestock farmers in Uttara and Rangachang received field-level training on scientific animal husbandry practices through two programmes conducted by the Department of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services (AH&VS) under different government schemes.
Under the UT-ATMA scheme, AH&VS conducted a demonstration programme at the field of Nirmala Das in Uttara on August 31, focusing on practical training and technical guidance to help livestock farmers adopt improved animal husbandry practices.
The session covered scientific livestock management, improved feeding methods and the need for timely veterinary intervention to maintain animal health and improve productivity. Farmers attending the demonstration interacted with the technical team and showed interest in adopting the practices demonstrated during the field exercise.

A separate farmers’ field school on goat farming was organised by the Veterinary Dispensary, Rangachang, under the National Livestock Mission (NLM) on September 3 at the field of Anand Rao, a resident of Rangachang-4.
N. Karthick, Up-Pradhan, attended the programme as chief guest and also participated in the training. The session highlighted the NLM Entrepreneurship Development Programme, while the Senior Veterinary Officer explained the Livestock Insurance Scheme, artificial insemination in goats and the Kisan Credit Card (KCC).
The goat-farming training also focused on practical aspects of scientific husbandry. The Senior Veterinary Officer of Veterinary Dispensary Rangachang and the team demonstrated procedures including hoof trimming and deworming.
The two programmes combined classroom-style technical guidance with field demonstrations, covering livestock management, feeding, veterinary care and specific goat husbandry practices. The department said it would continue organising similar programmes for farmers across the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
