South Andaman to Join Nationwide Nasha Mukt Yuva Campaign on August 2

Date:

Sri Vijaya Puram, Aug. 1: South Andaman is set to join a nationwide anti-drug campaign on August 2, with around 1,000 youth expected to participate in the “Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat Sankalp Abhiyan”, an initiative aimed at strengthening public awareness against substance abuse and encouraging youth participation in the national movement for a Drug-Free India.

The programme will be organised at 10 a.m. on August 2 at the auditorium of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Institute of Technology (DBRAIT), Sri Vijaya Puram. It is being conducted by the Andaman and Nicobar Administration (South Andaman District) in collaboration with MY Bharat, Sri Vijaya Puram, under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India, as part of the nationwide Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan.

A key feature of the event will be a virtual address by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is scheduled to interact with youth across the country. According to the organisers, the nationwide campaign is expected to connect nearly 10,000 locations and involve more than one crore young people through physical and virtual participation.

In South Andaman, the programme is expected to bring together about 1,000 MY Bharat volunteers and youth. Participants will include MY Bharat volunteers, National Service Scheme (NSS) volunteers and students from Jawaharlal Nehru Rajkeeya Mahavidyalaya, Tagore Government College of Education, Andaman College, Andaman Law College, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Institute of Technology, Andaman and Nicobar Islands Institute of Medical Sciences and the Industrial Training Institute. Members of youth clubs, non-governmental organisations, spiritual organisations and representatives of various government departments are also expected to attend.

During the programme, participants will take the Nasha Mukt Yuva Pledge, reaffirming their commitment to a drug-free lifestyle and encouraging others to support the campaign.

The initiative will also mark the launch of a 100-week nationwide Sunday movement promoting sports, fitness, yoga, meditation, cultural activities, awareness programmes and community engagement. District-level activities, including awareness rallies, walkathons, street plays, signature campaigns and other outreach programmes, will also be organised as part of the campaign against substance abuse.

The organisers have appealed to educational institutions, youth organisations, civil society groups, parents and citizens, particularly young people, to participate in the campaign and take the e-Pledge through the MY Bharat portal. Reporting for participants has been scheduled for 8.30 a.m., with the programme commencing at 10 a.m.
