Sri Vijaya Puram, July 30: Children with special needs in North and Middle Andaman will have access to disability assessment, certification and welfare enrolment through a two-day identification and assessment camp being organised under the Inclusive Education component of Samagra Shiksha, aiming to improve access to education, healthcare and government support services.
The Block Project Office (BPO), Rangat, will conduct the camps on July 31 at the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Auditorium, Rangat, and on August 1 at Government Senior Secondary School (GSSS), Kadamtala. The initiative is intended to facilitate early identification and comprehensive assessment of Children with Special Needs (CwSN), while enabling eligible beneficiaries to access disability-related entitlements.
According to the organisers, the camps will provide a platform for identifying children requiring specialised support and connecting them with essential welfare services. Besides assessments, eligible children will receive assistance for obtaining Disability Certificates, enrolling for the Unique Disability ID (UDID) Card, and registering under the NIRAMAYA Health Insurance Scheme.
The assessment process will be carried out by a multidisciplinary team comprising medical specialists, rehabilitation professionals, educational and vocational assessment experts, and representatives from the Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India (ALIMCO). The participation of experts from multiple disciplines is aimed at ensuring a comprehensive evaluation of each child’s needs.
Parents and guardians have been requested to ensure that children are physically present during the assessment, as the evaluation forms the basis for certification and enrolment under various support programmes.
Beneficiaries have also been advised to carry all required documents to facilitate the assessment and registration process. These include an existing Disability Certificate, if available, or relevant enrolment details; a UDID Card or UDID enrolment receipt; the child’s Aadhaar Card, which is mandatory; an Income Certificate issued within the last two months showing a monthly family income not exceeding Rs. 22,500; two passport-size photographs; and a Ration Card or BPL Card wherever required for enrolment under the NIRAMAYA Health Insurance Scheme.
The camps are being organised as part of the Inclusive Education component of Samagra Shiksha, which seeks to improve access to educational opportunities and support services for Children with Special Needs. By bringing assessment, certification and welfare enrolment under a single initiative, the programme aims to help eligible children access government assistance more efficiently while reducing barriers faced by families in obtaining disability-related services.
