Jyotika Backs NEET Protesters, Calls for Dharmendra Pradhan to Step Down

Date:

Sri Vijaya Puram, July 25: As protests over the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) continue across the country, actor Jyotika has publicly backed students demanding reforms to the medical entrance examination system and called for the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

The actor expressed her support through an Instagram post as demonstrations intensified in several parts of India over allegations of irregularities in the conduct of the examination. Student organisations, youth groups and political activists have stepped up their campaign in recent days, seeking greater accountability from the Union government and demanding a transparent examination process.

The nationwide protests gained further momentum after the ‘Sansad Chalo’ march organised in New Delhi earlier this week. Thousands of students and supporters of the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) marched towards Parliament, demanding a transparent investigation into the alleged NEET question paper leak and other controversies linked to the examination.

The demonstration witnessed heavy police deployment as protesters attempted to reach Parliament. Several demonstrators, including opposition leaders, were detained during the march. The police action subsequently drew criticism from political leaders, education activists and members of the film fraternity.

Tamil Nadu, where opposition to NEET has remained strong for several years, has continued to witness demonstrations by student unions and various organisations calling for the examination to be scrapped. The movement has also attracted support from public figures who have voiced concern over the examination’s impact on students.

In her social media post, Jyotika directly appealed to the Union Education Minister, stating, “Dharmendra Pradhan, step down; resign. I stand with the students and the future of our nation, committed to a democratic India and educational reform.”

She also praised the younger generation for speaking out on issues related to education and democratic values. Addressing Gen-Z, the actor wrote, “To the Gen-Z generation, uninhibited and transparent, we are proud of you.”

Jyotika further acknowledged the role of the Cockroach Janata Party in mobilising the protests, saying the movement had demonstrated the power of collective action. She also referred to education reform activist Sonam Wangchuk and CJP leaders Abhijit Dipke and Saurav Das as role models for young people.

“As mothers, we wish to raise our children to be like you. Thank you, CJP, for making us fearless,” she wrote.

Her remarks add to the growing number of statements from politicians, actors, educationists and civil society groups calling for reforms to the NEET examination system and greater transparency in its administration.
