South Andaman Police Step Up Public Outreach to Build Drug-Free Communities

Date:

Sri Vijaya Puram, July 8: South Andaman Police has intensified its anti-drug campaign by conducting a series of awareness programmes across the district under the “Nasha Mukt Bharat, Khushhaal Bharat” initiative, reaching residents, youth, traders and commuters with messages on the dangers of substance abuse and the importance of community participation in preventing narcotics-related offences.

The district-wide campaign was organised to educate the public on the physical, mental, social and legal consequences of drug abuse while encouraging citizens to actively support efforts aimed at creating a drug-free society.

As part of the initiative, Police Station Aberdeen and Police Station Pahargaon conducted awareness programmes at Junglighat, Ratna Market, Garacharma and Prothrapur. The sessions focused on sensitizing residents, shopkeepers and young people about the harmful effects of narcotic substances and the need to remain vigilant against drug-related activities.

Police Outpost R.K. Pur also organised awareness programmes at R.K. Pur Vegetable Market and V.K. Pur Bazaar, where members of the public were informed about the impact of substance abuse and the legal consequences associated with narcotics offences.

Police Station Chatham carried out similar programmes at Haddo, Chatham Bridge, Kali Maatha Mandir and Buniyadabad Junction. Participants were educated on the adverse effects of narcotic substances and encouraged to support police initiatives aimed at curbing drug-related crimes.

Police Station Humfrygunj organised an awareness programme at Manglutan Playground, while Police Station Ograbraj conducted campaigns at Chouldari Market and Ferrargunj Market. The programmes encouraged youth, drivers and members of the public to adopt healthy lifestyles and promptly report information relating to narcotics.

On Swaraj Dweep, awareness programmes were held at Govind Nagar No. 3, Vijay Nagar No. 5 and Kala Pathar Village. During these sessions, residents were informed about the impact of drug abuse on individuals, families and society and were encouraged to strengthen community vigilance against narcotics-related offences.

South Andaman Police stated that the sustained awareness initiatives form part of its efforts to strengthen police-public partnership in combating drug abuse and promoting greater public participation in anti-narcotics measures across the district.

The police have appealed to citizens to report any information related to narcotics through the MANAS Helpline-1933, Police Emergency Helpline-112 or WhatsApp number 9531856080, assuring that the identity of informants will be kept strictly confidential.
