KV No. 1 Sri Vijaya Puram Students Host MP for Civic Podcast on Governance

Date:

In a unique blend of civic engagement and digital learning, students of Class XI of Prime Minister Shri Kendra Vidyalaya Kendriya 1, Sri Vijaya Puram, recently hosted the reigning Member of Parliament for a podcast discussion focused on his political journey, public service, and continued support for the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

The interactive session marked a departure from conventional classroom learning, with students taking the lead in conceptualising, anchoring, and recording the podcast. The initiative allowed learners to directly engage with an elected representative, gaining first-hand insights into democratic processes, leadership challenges, and the role of governance in regional development.

The exercise was designed to encourage activity-based learning and critical thinking among senior secondary students. By using podcasting as a medium, the school aimed to familiarise students with new-age technology while strengthening communication skills, teamwork, and confidence, key competencies emphasised under the National Education Policy (NEP).

The enthusiasm shown by the students reflected a growing shift in island schools towards experiential and technology-enabled learning. Students prepared their questions in advance, researched political milestones, and managed the technical aspects of recording, demonstrating a high level of ownership over the activity.

Such initiatives align closely with the NEP’s focus on holistic education, experiential learning, and real-world exposure. The podcast format, in particular, was seen as an effective tool for bridging classroom knowledge with contemporary digital platforms that are increasingly used for public discourse.

The interaction also provided students with an opportunity to understand the responsibilities of public representatives and the importance of citizen participation in a democracy, especially in geographically unique regions like the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

More institutions in the islands are encouraged to adopt similar innovative practices, stressing that student participation in such initiatives plays a vital role in shaping informed, confident, and socially aware citizens. Greater collaboration between educational institutions and public leaders, they noted, could significantly contribute to preparing youth for future leadership roles.

Such events are appreciated as a positive step towards nurturing curiosity, civic awareness, and technological adaptability among island students, qualities seen as essential for the long-term advancement and betterment of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
