Sri Vijaya Puram, Sept. 01: The three-day In-Service Practical Hands-on Training Programme for Graduate Trained Teachers (Science) was organised by the Office of the Deputy Director Education (Science), Directorate of Education, on August 27, 29 and 31.
The programme brought together GTT teachers specialising in Science, Life Science and Physical Science from various government schools. Training was conducted simultaneously at three centrally located schools: GMSSS, Aberdeen; GSSS RBV; and GBSSS, Middle Point.
During the programme, participating teachers carried out experiments in Physics, Chemistry and Biology laboratories. The sessions also covered the effective use of laboratory equipment, safety procedures and techniques for demonstrating experiments.
The training aimed to strengthen teachers’ practical and experimental capabilities while encouraging more activity-based, experiential and engaging approaches to science education. The programme sought to connect theoretical instruction with practical experimentation that teachers can use in their respective schools.
The valedictory function was held at the auditorium of GMSSS, Aberdeen. Deputy Director Education (Science) Ram Pravesh said practical training was necessary to bridge the gap between theoretical concepts and experimentation.
He urged participating teachers to replicate the experiments demonstrated during the training in their respective schools and use practical activities to encourage scientific temper among students.
The programme covered teachers from both North and Middle Andaman and Nicobar districts, providing them with common training in laboratory-based science instruction.
The Directorate organised the sessions as an in-service training initiative, focusing on practical skills that teachers require to conduct experiments, handle laboratory equipment safely and demonstrate scientific concepts effectively to students.
