What to Do This Summer Vacation in Andaman?

Date:

From books to basketball, island kids are diving into reading, games, and more

Summer’s here, and the Andaman & Nicobar islands are making sure it’s not just about ice creams and beach naps (though we fully support both). This year, the Andaman Administration has lined up a summer bursting with creativity, energy, and brainpower, with something for every curious kid and enthusiastic parent.

First up, arts and crafts lovers, rejoice! The Department of Education is rolling out Summer Hobby Classes 2025 from May 13 to June 17 at Govt. Girls Senior Secondary School, Sri Vijaya Puram. Think music, dance, drawing, and craft, all under the guidance of master trainers who know exactly how to turn little hands and big imaginations into masterpieces. These sessions run daily from 9 AM to 12 Noon, so kids can channel their inner artist and still have the afternoon free for mangoes and naps. If you’ve got a child in Classes III to VIII who’s itching to learn or just wants to try something new, sign-ups open on May 5, just call 9933281449 or 9679571244 to get your name in.

But wait, it’s not just the artsy crowd getting a treat. Sports buffs, this is your time to shine! The Department of Sports is hosting a FREE summer coaching camp for school children across a whole lineup of sports: athletics, archery, badminton, basketball, cricket, cycling, football, hockey, table tennis, and volleyball. Yes, you read that right, free coaching with expert trainers, split between morning and afternoon sessions. Whether your child dreams of scoring the winning goal, smashing a perfect serve, or sprinting to glory, this camp is designed to help them level up their skills (and maybe burn off some of that summer energy). To sign up, just contact the coach for your chosen sport, the numbers are all provided, making registration as easy as a goal kick.

And for those who love to escape into a good book, here’s the cherry on top: the State Library in Sri Vijaya Puram has extended its Reading Section hours! Due to popular demand, the section will now stay open on 2nd Saturdays, weekly offs (Mondays), and even public holidays from 10:30 AM to 7:00 PM. So if you’ve been craving some quiet time with your favorite novels or research materials, you now have more chances to indulge. On regular days, the library continues its 9 AM to 7 PM schedule, making sure bookworms are well-fed all summer long.

What’s the big picture here? The Andaman Administration isn’t just keeping kids busy, they’re investing in talent, creativity, and community spirit. Whether it’s through art and music, sports and teamwork, or reading and learning, this summer is about unlocking potential and giving young minds (and adults too) the space to grow, dream, and discover.
