Sri Vijaya Puram, Aug. 31: Timely vaccination and preventive health management took centre stage at a two-day training programme for poultry farmers in Wandoor, with experts stressing measures to prevent diseases and maintain healthy, productive flocks.
The programme on “Importance of Vaccination in Prevention and Control of Diseases in Poultry Sector” was held on August 28 and 29, 2026, at Wandoor Gram Panchayat in South Andaman. The Department of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services, South Andaman, organised the programme under UT-ATMA 2026–27.
Technical sessions brought together resource persons from ICAR-CIARI and Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Sri Vijaya Puram, as well as Senior Veterinary Officers from Central Hatchery, Dollygunj, and Central Livestock Farm (CLF), Dollygunj. The experts conducted the sessions and interacted with participating farmers.
The training addressed key aspects of poultry health management, including timely vaccination and the prevention and control of major poultry diseases. Participants also received guidance on biosecurity, sanitation, scientific health management and general flock management.
The programme highlighted preventive healthcare as an important component of poultry farming, with farmers sensitised to measures aimed at reducing disease-related losses and improving productivity.
A visual presentation formed a specific part of the training, using photographs and other visual aids to familiarise farmers with major infectious diseases affecting poultry. The presentation covered clinical signs associated with common poultry diseases and focused on their early identification, treatment and management.
Farmers also received guidance on preventive measures and the importance of administering appropriate vaccinations as part of poultry disease management.
Adhir Das, Gram Pradhan of Wandoor Gram Panchayat, attended the programme and encouraged participating farmers to adopt scientific practices in poultry farming.
The two-day programme combined technical instruction with interaction between farmers and veterinary and agricultural experts, giving participants an opportunity to discuss poultry health management alongside the training sessions.
The programme concluded with the distribution of certificates to participants. The concluding emphasis remained on timely vaccination, appropriate biosecurity measures and scientific flock management to maintain healthy and productive poultry flocks.
