Temporary Traffic Restrictions Issued Ahead of VVIP Visit

Date:

The District Magistrate of South Andaman has issued temporary traffic restrictions across several major routes in Sri Vijaya Puram on December 12 to facilitate smooth movement during an upcoming VVIP visit. The regulated traffic plan will remain in effect from 9.30 AM to 8 PM, though authorities clarified that no roads will be fully closed and regular movement will continue under controlled conditions.

According to the notification, the routes coming under temporary regulation include VIP Road, Netaji Stadium stretch, Marina Park Road, Police Lines, Airport Road, Dollygunj, Bathubasti Road and Chidiyatapu Road. These areas form some of the key movement corridors within the capital, often witnessing heavy vehicular flow during peak hours. The administration stated that the curated traffic plan aims to minimise inconvenience to the general public while ensuring secure passage for VVIP convoys.

Emergency vehicles travelling from Garacharma toward Aberdeen Bazaar have been advised to use the Attampahad–Dollygunj route during the regulated period. Officials noted that emergency services will be given priority throughout the day, and if required, emergency vehicles will be facilitated through restricted corridors without delay. The administration emphasised that maintaining unhindered emergency access remains a top priority.

The district authorities issued the advisory in advance to help commuters plan their travel and avoid last-minute disruptions. Traffic personnel are expected to be stationed across the regulated stretches to manage flow, guide motorists and respond to any congestion-related issues that may arise during the VVIP movement schedule.

The notification also encouraged citizens to cooperate with traffic police and avoid non-essential travel through the designated routes during peak movement hours. Officials stressed that these measures are temporary in nature and intended solely for maintaining orderly conditions throughout the visit. Past VVIP movements in the region have occasionally resulted in bottlenecks, and the administration appears keen to ensure smoother coordination this time.

In recent months, sensitive movement corridors around Netaji Stadium, Marina Park and the Airport Road have seen high traffic density, especially during public events and visiting delegations. The administration’s advance intimation is expected to alleviate commuter concerns and reduce unexpected delays. Residents working in office zones surrounding the regulated areas were advised to account for additional travel time when planning their commute on December 12.

The Traffic Control Room will remain operational throughout the day for real-time assistance, and the public may contact 03192–243812 for queries or urgent assistance. Commuters can also share live locations or seek updates through the Third Eye WhatsApp helpline at 9531892228. Additionally, the office of the SDPO South Andaman will be available at 03192–232405 for matters requiring supervisory intervention.

Traffic officials have been directed to maintain strict oversight while minimising disruptions for daily commuters, shopkeepers and public transport operators. City bus services, auto-rickshaws and goods carriers are expected to experience regulated movement along key stretches, and drivers have been advised to follow instructions from traffic personnel on ground.

The notification forms part of a broader coordination effort between district authorities and law enforcement agencies to ensure safety, security and logistical efficiency during the VVIP programme. Officials highlighted that regulated movement policies are commonly implemented during such visits across major urban centres to maintain security integrity.

Residents have been encouraged to stay updated through official communication channels and to comply with the traffic plan to avoid delays. The administration expressed confidence that with adequate public cooperation, the temporary measures will ensure a smooth and incident-free passage.

With the visit scheduled over two days, authorities may issue additional advisories depending on movement patterns and evolving security requirements. For now, commuters are advised to remain alert to route updates and maintain patience during the regulated period.
