Hut Bay, May 19:
The Village Health Sanitation and Nutrition Day (VHSND) was observed in Little Andaman with a day-long awareness campaign at the Samiti Conference Hall in Hut Bay, witnessing strong participation from local SHGs, village organizations, and community leaders.

The event was inaugurated by S. Parmanathan, Pramukh of Little Andaman, as the chief guest. About 60 women from various Self Help Groups and villages took part in sessions covering healthcare, nutrition, sanitation, and child safety.

Dr. Shankar Saha from the Health Department educated the gathering on WASH (Water, Sanitation and Hygiene) practices, with special focus on the needs of pregnant and lactating women. B Albakka from ICDS spoke about tackling malnutrition during the first 1000 days of a child’s life.

Seema Bhowmik from the Police Department raised awareness on domestic violence, child abuse, and the legal mechanisms for redressal, while Sreedevi from the Agriculture Department explained how nutrition gardens, organic farming, and hybrid seeds can contribute to healthier households.

The event was coordinated by Cluster Coordinators, Community Resource Persons, and Data Entry Operators, reinforcing grassroots-level public health outreach.
