VKSA Drives Massive Farmer Engagement in Islands
Sri Vijaya Puram, June 18: The Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan (VKSA), a 15-day pre-Kharif campaign focused on sustainable agriculture and farmer empowerment, concluded across the Andaman and Nicobar Islands on June 12. Launched on May 29, VKSA aimed to increase grassroots awareness of central agricultural schemes and best practices.
Farmers from remote and interior areas actively participated in the campaign, which saw the union territory ranking 4th nationally in terms of participation on the inaugural day. The campaign was flagged off by the administration following a preparatory meeting chaired by the Chief Secretary.
Krishi Rath, Awareness Drives Key Campaign Highlights
The Krishi Rath, launched in South Andaman, traveled across villages with banners, audio messages, and interactive sessions. A total of 194 events were held, including street plays, sports meets, and chaupals, drawing 25,581 participants.
In line with the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ initiative, 569 fruit-bearing trees were planted. Departments collaborated with Krishi Vigyan Kendras to reach areas such as the Nancowrie group of islands. Real-time feedback and best practice documentation were also emphasized, making the VKSA campaign a potential model for future rural outreach efforts.
