Days after a 25-year-old resident died in a suspected crocodile attack, residents of Maitilak village along Jirkatang Road have renewed their demand for a permanent reinforced concrete bridge. Villagers told The Wave Andaman that frequent crocodile sightings, recurring monsoon flooding and the deteriorating wooden bridge have made the village’s only crossing increasingly dangerous. They say the bridge disrupts school access, delays emergency medical care and leaves the village cut off during heavy rains. Residents have urged the Andaman and Nicobar Administration to immediately replace the ageing structure with a concrete bridge equipped with street lighting and safety barriers, warning that further delays could put more lives at risk.
