From ‘Tyranny of Distance’ to a Vision of Development

For decades, the Andaman & Nicobar Islands were often viewed through the lens of the “tyranny of distance” — a belief that remote regions could wait while urgent attention remained elsewhere. Speaking on the changing governance approach, it was highlighted that the past 12 years have focused on bridging that gap through improvements in security, connectivity, trade, and law enforcement. The islands are now being positioned as a strategic and developmental priority. Efforts such as the vision of a Drug-Free India reflect a broader commitment to ensuring that distance no longer determines progress.
