Skeletal Remains Found at Ramnagar Beach Remain Unidentified After One Week

Post-mortem report awaited as police seek public help to identify remains found at Ramnagar Beach

Date:

Unidentified human skeletal remains recovered from Ramnagar Beach in North and Middle Andaman on January 30 remain unclaimed, with authorities continuing efforts to establish the identity of the deceased while awaiting the post-mortem report.

According to police information, telephonic intimation regarding skeletal remains found at Ramnagar Beach was received at Kalighat Police Station at around 5:30 am on January 30, 2026. A police team immediately proceeded to the location, following which an Unnatural Death FIR (UD FIR No. 02/26 dated January 30, 2026) was registered under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023.

The remains were subsequently shifted to GB Pant Hospital, Sri Vijaya Puram. A post-mortem examination was conducted by the Department of Forensic Medicine at ANIIMS, and the remains are currently preserved in the hospital’s cold mortuary pending identification and further investigation.

Police said the deceased was found wearing a red T-shirt and green checked half pant. Despite initial inquiries and verification efforts, the identity of the individual has not yet been established.

Speaking to The Wave Andaman, Sub-Inspector Surender of Kalighat Police Station confirmed that the post-mortem examination process is underway and the official medical report is expected in approximately one week. Authorities have also contacted a local family that had previously reported a missing person, sharing photographs and available details for possible identification.

If identification is confirmed and the remains are claimed, the body will be released in accordance with legal procedures. Otherwise, the investigation will continue to determine the identity and circumstances surrounding the death, Surender indicated.

Police have been actively working to facilitate identification so that the remains can receive a final resting place. However, nearly a week after the recovery, no claimant has come forward so far, and the remains continue to be preserved at GB Pant Hospital, Sri Vijaya Puram.

Authorities have appealed to the public and relatives of any missing persons matching the description to contact the Unidentified Skeletal Remains Found at Ramnagar Beach Still Unclaimed
Kalighat Police Station. Information can be shared through the contact numbers 03192-273344, 03192-278148, or 03192-232100.

Superintendent of Police North & Middle Andaman District Vikas Swami said further procedural steps will depend on the findings of the post-mortem report and any identification claims that may emerge.

The investigation remains ongoing.
