Isles startup wins Bharat Entrepreneurs Award in Delhi

Unicorniz Innovation recognized for contribution to entrepreneurial ecosystem at national summit

Unicorniz Innovation Private Limited, a deep-tech startup based in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, has been honored with the Bharat Entrepreneurs Award at the 4th Bharat Entrepreneurship Summit in New Delhi. The recognition places the startup among a select group of enterprises acknowledged for shaping India’s entrepreneurial landscape at the state level.

The award was presented at a ceremony held at the NDMC Convention Center on Sansad Marg under the theme “Ek Bharat  –  Udyami Bharat.” The summit brought together policymakers, innovators, and industry leaders to showcase India’s growing startup culture and to highlight contributions from every state and Union Territory. The recognition for Unicorniz Innovation underscores the expanding presence of the islands in the national entrepreneurial ecosystem.

The Bharat Entrepreneurs Award is conferred on enterprises that demonstrate innovation, resilience, and impact within their regions. For Unicorniz Innovation, the recognition comes as validation of its work in emerging technologies and its role in fostering an innovation-driven culture in a geographically remote region. As a DPIIT-recognized startup, the company has been building solutions aimed at leveraging deep-tech approaches to real-world challenges.

The event was attended by prominent dignitaries, including Delhi’s Minister of Industries, Food & Supplies and Environment, Forest & Wildlife, Sardar Manjinder Singh Sirsa, who was the chief guest. Other eminent figures from government, academia, and industry also participated in the proceedings. The presence of such a diverse gathering underlined the significance of startups in driving India’s ambition to become a global hub of innovation.

Apart from the award presentations, the summit featured knowledge sessions that provided insights into the challenges and opportunities facing entrepreneurs across India. One session focused on “State-wise Experiences from the Entrepreneurial Ecosystem,” bringing out how local policies, resource availability, and regional dynamics shape the growth of startups. Another, titled “Building Viksit Bharat through Emerging Technology and Innovation,” explored how advancements in technology could be harnessed to achieve sustainable and inclusive growth.

For the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Unicorniz Innovation’s achievement is particularly significant. Startups in the Union Territory face challenges unique to their geography, including limited connectivity to markets, logistical constraints, and smaller resource pools. Despite these hurdles, Unicorniz has managed to carve out a space for itself in the highly competitive national ecosystem, demonstrating how innovation can thrive even in remote locations with the right support and determination.

The recognition also has symbolic value for the entrepreneurial ecosystem of the islands. By showcasing a local enterprise on a national stage, the award signals opportunities for aspiring entrepreneurs across the territory. It highlights that the islands are not confined to tourism and fisheries alone but can also contribute meaningfully to India’s growing reputation as a startup powerhouse.

Participation in the summit allowed Unicorniz Innovation to interact with policymakers, industry veterans, and investors, potentially opening pathways for collaboration and scaling. Knowledge-sharing with other startups and state representatives also provided the opportunity to learn from diverse experiences and adapt best practices suitable for island conditions.

The Bharat Entrepreneurs Award to Unicorniz Innovation reinforces the importance of building strong regional ecosystems that nurture talent beyond metropolitan hubs. For policymakers, it is an example of how fostering entrepreneurship in every state and Union Territory can unlock hidden potential and create broader economic opportunities.

As the company returns from Delhi with the award, attention now shifts to how Unicorniz Innovation can leverage the recognition to expand its footprint, develop partnerships, and contribute to the broader goals of technology-driven growth. For the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, the achievement provides encouragement that local innovation can gain national visibility and that young entrepreneurs in the islands can aspire to compete on equal footing with their mainland counterparts.
