North & Middle Andaman Gears Up for Joint Tsunami and Cyclone Disaster Response Drill

The District Administration of North and Middle Andaman, in collaboration with line departments, is set to conduct an Inter-State Joint Mock Exercise on Tsunami and Cyclone disasters on November 4, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The initiative follows directions from the Directorate of Disaster Management and aims to assess and enhance the district’s readiness to handle large-scale natural calamities.

The exercise is designed to strengthen disaster preparedness, improve inter-agency coordination, and evaluate the operational efficiency of emergency response mechanisms. Through this joint effort, the administration seeks to ensure that all concerned departments and agencies are equipped to respond swiftly and effectively in the event of a real emergency.

According to officials, the mock drill will focus on testing the coordination between multiple stakeholders, including disaster management teams, emergency responders, medical units, and local institutions- in mitigating the impact of natural disasters such as tsunamis and cyclones. The goal is to identify potential gaps in the existing response framework and implement corrective measures to enhance overall preparedness.

The Inter-State Mock Exercise will take place at several key locations across the district, including Pokhadera Jetty, Karmatang Village, Aerial Bay Jetty, LCT Jetty Durgapur, Nimbulata, and Nilambur. These sites have been strategically chosen to simulate diverse real-life disaster scenarios involving coastal and inland areas, ensuring a comprehensive evaluation of response strategies.

Residents in and around these areas have been advised not to panic during the exercise. The administration has cautioned that the drill will involve the use of sirens, rescue demonstrations, and the movement of emergency vehicles as part of the simulation. These activities are standard components of the preparedness exercise, aimed at enhancing the coordination and communication flow among responding agencies.

Officials emphasized that the mock exercise is not only a routine preparedness measure but also a proactive step toward building disaster resilience within local communities. It serves as an opportunity to train personnel, test emergency protocols, and strengthen coordination mechanisms between civil administration, security forces, and other support agencies.

The District Administration reiterated its continued commitment to ensuring community safety and resilience through such regular preparedness initiatives. It reaffirmed that exercises of this nature are vital to maintaining high levels of readiness and ensuring that response agencies can act swiftly and cohesively during real emergencies.

By conducting this joint mock drill, the North and Middle Andaman District Administration aims to further strengthen its disaster management framework and ensure that all agencies are well-prepared to protect lives and minimize damage in the face of natural disasters.
