A group of tourists visiting Havelock Island was detained by police after an altercation allegedly turned violent, according to sources aware of the matter.
Sources said the group, comprising 27 people, had travelled to the island as part of a MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions) trip. Trouble reportedly began after a disagreement over accommodation arrangements at a private resort on the island.
Following the dispute, resort staff contacted the police for assistance.

However, according to sources, some members of the group allegedly became aggressive when police intervened and attacked a policeman with a beer bottle, prompting authorities to take action.
Police subsequently detained the entire group and brought them to Sri Vijaya Puram, where they were produced before a judicial magistrate, sources said.
Further details about the incident and the charges being considered were not immediately available.
The Wave Andaman will update this story as more information becomes available.
