Sri Vijaya Puram, May 24 — The Wave Andaman, a digital news platform focused on the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, was formally launched on Saturday evening at a public event in Sri Vijaya Puram. Member of Parliament Bishnu Pada Ray inaugurated the platform in the presence of public representatives, journalists, entrepreneurs, and community members.
The launch began with a traditional lamp-lighting ceremony, followed by the formal activation of the website by the MP. Addressing the gathering, Ray described the platform as a step toward giving Andaman stories sustained national attention. “Giving Andaman stories a national platform at last,” he remarked during the inauguration.
The event was attended by BJP national spokesperson and author Tuhin A. Sinha, Editor-in-Chief O.N. Jaiswal, CEO Anamika Karati, industrialist T.S.G. Bhaskar, and businessman Mohamed Jadwet.
The platform will publish content under eight editorial categories, including local reportage from all tehsils, long-form national analysis, community opinion, offbeat stories, features on food and culture, classifieds, and sports. A subscription-only section will also offer exclusive content.
A walkthrough of the site was presented during the launch, highlighting features such as the live news ticker, In-Depth reports, and a Humans of the Islands section that profiles everyday residents.
Editor-in-Chief O.N. Jaiswal said the platform aims to practice “verified, balanced, and ethical journalism” while strengthening coverage of both immediate island affairs and broader policy developments.
As part of the programme, a discussion on national security titled Redefining India’s War on Terror was held between Tuhin A. Sinha and News Editor Rashmi Rao. Speaking on recent developments, Sinha said the government had moved from a defensive stance to a more assertive one. “This time, India retaliated from the front foot—and the world took note,” he said.
Sinha also acknowledged the portal’s effort to bridge local and national narratives. “Congratulations to The Wave Andaman for connecting national issues to local people, and local concerns to the nation.”
CEO Anamika Karati, delivering the vote of thanks, said the platform would remain committed to transparency and community engagement. “We may falter, but we’ll own our mistakes and grow,” she said. “Share your stories, shape your news.”
Mohamed Jadwet noted that the platform could help amplify the visibility of local enterprises. “Kudos to the team for creating a space that links businesses directly to customers and tourists alike.”
T.S.G. Bhaskar said the launch marked “a significant milestone” in bridging the digital media divide in the islands.
The portal was developed by a collective of island-based journalists seeking to build a dedicated editorial space for the region. Speaking at the end of the programme, Jaiswal said: “The archipelago now has news from the islands, for the nation. We begin at home, but our stories travel far.”
