Sri Vijaya Puram, July 7: The Andaman and Nicobar Administration has notified 134 tuberculosis (TB) cases under the ongoing TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan – 100 Days Intensified Campaign, with large-scale screening and community outreach driving efforts to identify missing TB cases and strengthen early diagnosis across the Islands.
The campaign, launched on March 24, 2026, is being implemented in accordance with national guidelines and focuses on proactive identification of tuberculosis among vulnerable populations and high-risk settings through chest X-ray screening and upfront Nucleic Acid Amplification Test (NAAT) testing.
According to the Administration, the campaign adopts a multi-pronged service delivery strategy by organising Ayushman Arogya Shivirs across urban and rural areas as well as congregate settings. The camps also use handheld chest X-ray machines to facilitate on-site TB screening and improve early detection.

Official figures covering the period from March 24 to July 6, 2026, show that a total of 762 Ayushman Arogya Shivirs have been conducted across the Islands. Of these, 209 camps were organised in urban areas, 553 in rural areas, seven in congregate settings and nine in other locations.
The campaign recorded a total footfall of 34,566 people, including 15,877 men and 18,689 women. During the same period, 10,085 new and repeat Nikshay enrolments were completed as part of the national TB surveillance and patient management system.
Health teams conducted 13,622 chest X-rays and 3,050 NAAT tests during the campaign, resulting in the notification of 134 tuberculosis cases.
Alongside medical screening, the Administration also intensified community engagement through Janbhagidari activities aimed at increasing public participation in TB elimination efforts.
According to official data, 165 Janbhagidari activities were organised during the campaign. These initiatives involved 188 elected representatives, including one Member of Parliament, 19 Urban Local Body representatives and 168 Panchayati Raj Institution representatives.

The campaign also reached educational institutions through 127 awareness programmes conducted in schools and colleges. In addition, 31 activities were organised in line ministries, while two programmes were held in collaboration with Public Sector Undertakings, corporates and business associations. Five My Bharat Volunteers also participated in the awareness campaign.
The Administration has appealed to citizens to actively support the TB elimination programme by coming forward as Nikshay Mitras and extending nutritional and psychosocial support to tuberculosis patients.
Reiterating its commitment to achieving a TB-free Andaman and Nicobar Islands, the Administration stated that sustained screening, early diagnosis, community participation and strengthened healthcare delivery remain central to the ongoing TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan across the Union Territory.
