The Directorate of Education has announced the launch of a Table Tennis Coaching Camp in Sri Vijaya Puram, beginning October 8. The initiative, set to be conducted at the Teachers Home Hall, aims to enhance sporting skills, foster fitness, and encourage student participation in table tennis, a sport steadily gaining popularity among young learners.
The coaching sessions will be held four days a week, from Monday to Thursday, between 4 pm and 5 pm. This scheduling seeks to balance school commitments while providing students with regular, structured training opportunities. The Directorate of Education has called upon students across Sri Vijaya Puram to take advantage of this initiative and develop their skills under expert guidance.
The camp will be supervised by the Sports Section of the Directorate of Education and conducted by trained Physical Education Teachers (PETs). The coaching team includes Jeeshan Iman (Directorate of Education), Mohammed Firoz (Government Senior Secondary School GDMS), and Niti Biswas (Government Middle School Chouldhari). Their collective experience in both physical education and sports training is expected to provide participants with comprehensive guidance.
The initiative reflects a growing emphasis on nurturing sports talent in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. By focusing on table tennis, the Directorate is promoting a sport that requires minimal infrastructure yet offers significant benefits in terms of agility, reflexes, and concentration. For students in the islands, such initiatives open doors to wider participation in inter-school, regional, and national competitions, offering platforms for recognition and growth.
Table tennis has often been highlighted for its ability to combine physical fitness with mental alertness. It helps improve hand-eye coordination, builds stamina, and sharpens reflexes. The game also fosters discipline, patience, and focus, qualities that contribute not only to sporting success but also to academic performance and personal growth. For students in Sri Vijaya Puram and nearby areas, the camp presents an opportunity to hone these skills in a structured environment.
Beyond individual benefits, the camp is also part of the broader effort by the Education Directorate to mainstream sports within the curriculum and after-school activities. By engaging students in regular physical activity, the initiative aligns with national objectives of promoting a healthy lifestyle, combating sedentary habits, and building a sporting culture in schools.
Students attending the camp will also benefit from exposure to modern training methods and a competitive atmosphere. The instructors, with their background in physical education, are expected to combine technical training with motivational support, encouraging students to aim higher in sports. Such early-stage exposure can be particularly valuable in nurturing young talent who may go on to represent the islands at state or national levels.
Parents and guardians have been urged to support their children’s participation, recognizing the role of sports in shaping well-rounded individuals. The Directorate has emphasized that opportunities like the Table Tennis Coaching Camp provide more than just sporting skills; they also instill teamwork, resilience, and goal-oriented discipline.
Registration details have been made available, with interested students encouraged to contact the PET at 9476075226. With limited training slots expected to fill quickly, the Directorate has advised early registration to ensure participation.
The launch of the camp underscores the administration’s commitment to expanding opportunities for young athletes in the islands. While traditional focus areas have often been cricket, football, and athletics, initiatives such as this demonstrate a conscious effort to diversify sports training and give equal importance to games like table tennis, badminton, and other indoor sports.
As the October 8 start date approaches, anticipation is building among students and sports enthusiasts in Sri Vijaya Puram. The camp is expected not only to boost individual skills but also to contribute to building a culture of sporting excellence in the islands, reflecting the Directorate of Education’s broader mission of nurturing talent, fitness, and discipline through organized training and regular practice.
By creating structured opportunities such as the Table Tennis Coaching Camp, the Directorate of Education is reinforcing the message that sports form an essential part of education. The camp stands as a reminder that investing in young talent today lays the foundation for a healthier, more confident, and aspirational generation of tomorrow in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
