Sri Vijaya Puram, 9 May: As schools close for the summer and children prepare for weeks away from classrooms, a different kind of learning season is quietly unfolding across the islands. This year, summer vacation camps in Sri Vijaya Puram and nearby areas are witnessing growing interest from parents looking to move children away from screens and into activities that combine creativity, fitness and practical learning.
From yoga mats in Delanipur to sailing lessons by the sea, and from robotics workshops to music training sessions, the 2026 vacation season is offering children a packed calendar of opportunities designed to make the holidays productive and engaging.
Organizers across the islands say there has been a noticeable rise in interest for camps that focus not only on academics but also on confidence building, discipline, communication and hands-on skills.
Yoga Camps Focus on Health and Discipline
Among the early camps to begin this season is the Battini Ganesh Summer Yoga Camp, being conducted at Delanipur and Bathubasti from the first week of May.
Led by a certified instructor from the Ministry of AYUSH, the camp aims to introduce children to yoga through interactive sessions focused on physical fitness, concentration and mental well-being.
Organisers say the camp has been designed to create a relaxed and enjoyable environment where children can learn discipline and healthy habits during the vacation period. With classes starting at ₹699, the organisers are positioning the program as an affordable activity for parents seeking a balance between recreation and wellness.
The availability of classes at two locations is also expected to make participation easier for families across Sri Vijaya Puram.

Sports Coaching Returns to Netaji Stadium
For children inclined towards outdoor activities and competitive sports, the State Olympic Association has announced a Summer Vacation Sports Coaching Camp at Netaji Stadium and other locations.
The camp will offer coaching in badminton, rugby, table tennis, athletics, boxing, archery and basketball for both beginners and advanced learners.
According to details released through the Daily Telegram, registrations will be conducted through a Google Form, with links available via WhatsApp by contacting 9933248121.
The camp is expected to attract students looking to stay physically active during the break while also developing sporting skills under structured coaching sessions.
Science, Robotics and Rocketry for Young Minds
The Science Centre, Sri Vijaya Puram, is set to turn summer vacation into a month-long science lab for students of Classes VI to VIII through its Holiday Camp scheduled from May 2 to 30.
The program includes activities such as aero modeling, ship building, robotics, model rocketry, astronomy, biology, telescope making and chemistry experiments.
According to information released by the Science Centre, the camp will run in two shifts every day, allowing students to participate in specialised learning sessions designed to encourage curiosity and practical understanding.
A registration fee of ₹500 per trade has been fixed, while transport facilities will also be available on selected routes for students.
Officials associated with the camp say the initiative aims to move science learning beyond textbooks by allowing students to directly build, test and experiment with models and scientific concepts.
Sailing Camp Brings Adventure to the Coast
Adding an element of adventure to this year’s summer activities, the Andaman Nicobar Sailing Club under ANIIDCO is expected to organise its Optimist Sailing Summer Camp for children aged 7 to 14 years from the second week of May.
The week-long program will provide beginner-friendly sailing training with batches of 10 to 15 students. A total of 100 seats will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Basic swimming skills are preferred for participants.
Organisers have stated that certificates will be awarded to children completing the training successfully, giving young participants an introduction to water sports and sailing techniques rarely available through regular school activities.
Computer and Skill-Based Learning Camps
Alongside sports and outdoor activities, several institutions are also focusing on practical learning and communication skills this summer.
Wise Academy Computer Centre at Junglighat has launched summer computer courses for children aged 10 to 13 years. Beginning from April 10, the program focuses on introducing children to basic computer operations and digital learning through practical sessions.
Organisers say the camp aims to help children become comfortable with technology while encouraging creativity through computer-based activities.
Meanwhile, AR Academy at M.G. Road, Junglighat, has announced a summer camp for children aged 6 to 12 years starting May 1.
The camp includes reading and writing exercises, maths quizzes, spoken English sessions and interactive activities aimed at building communication and learning confidence in children.
With limited seats available, organisers have advised parents to complete enrolment early.
Ramakrishna Mission Opens Creative Learning Courses
Ramakrishna Mission, Rajiv Gandhi Nagar, has also introduced Special Summer Vacation Courses for children and youth aged 10 to 15 years.
The courses include computer training, embroidery, drawing, painting and craft work, with classes beginning from May 4.
According to information shared by the Mission office, the weekday sessions have been planned to encourage creativity and practical learning through flexible timings and affordable fee structures.

Music Camp by Police Training Institute
In a unique initiative this summer, the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Police Training Institute will organise a 45-day music summer camp beginning May 4 for children of police personnel as well as the general public.
The camp will be conducted from Monday to Friday between 9 AM and 12 PM and will provide training in instruments such as keyboard, tabla, flute and guitar.
The sessions will be conducted by experienced musicians from NSCBPTI in collaboration with the Andaman & Nicobar Police Kala Manch.
Participants have been asked to bring their own instruments, while registrations are being conducted through an official Google Form.
A Summer Beyond Screens
With camps now spanning science, sports, arts, music, yoga and technology, this vacation season is shaping up to be one of the busiest for children in Sri Vijaya Puram.
Parents across the islands are increasingly viewing summer camps not merely as holiday activities but as opportunities for children to discover new interests, build social confidence and learn practical skills outside the classroom environment.
Many organisers have already indicated that seats are filling quickly, reflecting the growing demand for structured vacation programs across the islands.
