Andaman Police Seize 12.39 kg Ganja, Arrest Two in Sri Vijaya Puram Airport Raids

Date:

The Anti-Narcotics Police Station (ANPS) of the Andaman & Nicobar Police, in coordination with the Dog Squad, conducted two operations at VSI Airport, Sri Vijaya Puram, resulting in the seizure of 12.39 kg of Ganja and the arrest of two individuals.

The raids were carried out following intelligence inputs indicating possible drug smuggling activity at the airport. Officers intercepted the consignment and detained the suspects for questioning. Investigations are ongoing to determine the source of the narcotics and any broader smuggling network.

Cases have been filed under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985. The police have initiated further inquiries to identify other individuals involved in the smuggling attempt and to trace potential distribution channels within the islands.

The operation demonstrates the administration’s focus on maintaining a drug-free environment in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The police continue to emphasize vigilance and encourage residents and visitors to report any suspicious activity.

The Anti-Narcotics team, supported by the Dog Squad, executed the operation with precision, highlighting the effectiveness of intelligence-led interventions at strategic transport points. Officers monitored airport activity closely to prevent the illicit movement of narcotics and to safeguard the local community from the risks associated with drug trafficking.

The seized 12.39 kg of Ganja represents a significant disruption to potential narcotics distribution in the region. Authorities stated that the arrests were preventive measures aimed at curbing drug supply and ensuring public safety.

The Andaman & Nicobar Police have reinforced efforts to monitor key points across the islands, including ports and airports, where narcotics smuggling is considered a high-risk threat. Regular operations are conducted in coordination with other enforcement agencies to strengthen law enforcement coverage.

This seizure and the arrests underline the ongoing commitment of the police to combat drug smuggling and related crimes. Authorities confirmed that preventive and intelligence-driven operations will continue to maintain law and order, protect residents, and deter illicit activities in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
