The Election Department, Andaman and Nicobar Administration, has established a Helpdesk at the District Office, South Andaman, to provide assistance and information to citizens during the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) 2025 of electoral rolls. The initiative, undertaken under the directive of the Election Commission of India (ECI), aims to streamline public interaction and ensure that every eligible citizen is accurately represented in the electoral database.
The Helpdesk, functioning from the District Office, South Andaman, serves as a facilitation point for citizens seeking information or assistance regarding voter enrollment, deletion, correction of particulars, and change of address. By offering in-person guidance, the department hopes to make the SIR process more accessible and transparent to the general public.
Located on the ground floor of the Assistant Electoral Registration Officer’s (AERO) office premises in Sri Vijaya Puram, the Helpdesk is operational between 8:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. on all working days. The setup ensures that even first-time voters and those unfamiliar with the digital application process can receive personalized assistance.
According to officials, the establishment of this Helpdesk is in line with the Election Commission’s broader mandate to strengthen voter participation and reduce errors in electoral rolls. The Special Intensive Revision is a crucial annual exercise conducted across all districts of India to verify, update, and clean the voter database by removing duplications, adding new voters, and correcting existing entries.
The Andaman and Nicobar Administration has urged citizens to make full use of the Helpdesk services, particularly those who have recently changed residence, turned 18, or discovered discrepancies in their voter details. The department emphasized that timely participation in the revision process ensures citizens’ full democratic rights during future elections.
Officials at the Helpdesk are trained to assist with both online and offline voter registration processes. They guide visitors on how to fill out relevant forms, such as Form 6 (for new voter registration), Form 8 (for correction), and Form 7 (for deletion of names). The facility also supports digital submissions through the National Voters’ Service Portal (NVSP), ensuring that users can transition smoothly between manual and digital modes.
By setting up a dedicated Helpdesk, the Election Department aims to reduce procedural confusion, particularly for residents of rural and remote island areas who may not have regular access to online facilities. The effort is part of a citizen-centric approach that places accessibility and inclusion at the forefront of electoral management.
The ongoing SIR 2025 drive also serves as an opportunity for the Administration to sensitize the public on the importance of voter list accuracy. Accurate electoral rolls not only uphold the integrity of the election process but also enable smooth polling operations. Officials have reiterated that citizens’ proactive participation is key to maintaining transparency and reliability in democratic systems.
This initiative in South Andaman mirrors similar efforts undertaken across other districts, reflecting the ECI’s nationwide push to ensure comprehensive voter registration and inclusion before the next electoral cycle. The Helpdesk model has been particularly effective in addressing on-ground challenges and assisting those who face literacy or technological barriers.
Through such localized interventions, the Election Department seeks to deepen public trust and participation in the democratic process. The department has further advised political representatives, community leaders, and educational institutions to help spread awareness about the ongoing revision and encourage citizens to verify their details before the closing date of the SIR exercise.
The Helpdesk’s establishment not only supports administrative efficiency but also strengthens the democratic foundation of the islands by ensuring that no eligible voter is left behind. As the Special Intensive Revision 2025 continues, the Election Department’s proactive measures underscore its commitment to fair, inclusive, and transparent electoral governance in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
