Special Electoral Roll Revision Begins in Andaman & Nicobar Islands

Election officials, political parties briefed on house-to-house enumeration and online submission process

The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the Electoral Roll 2025 is set to begin across the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, marking the first major voter list verification exercise in over two decades. The announcement came after a detailed meeting chaired by Shri Arjun Sharma, IAS, District Election Officer (South Andaman), with representatives of recognized political parties at the Mini Conference Hall of Secretaries.

During the session, officials were briefed on the SIR schedule, procedures, and objectives, with a clear emphasis on ensuring that no eligible voter is left out and no ineligible name remains on the rolls. The meeting outlined the comprehensive schedule, starting with preparations from October 28 to November 3, followed by house-to-house enumeration between November 4 and December 4, 2025.

The draft electoral roll will be published on December 9, while the claims and objections period will run until January 8, 2026. The final publication of the updated rolls is scheduled for February 7, 2026.

The Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will play a central role during the revision process. They will collect and verify Enumeration Forms (EF), assist in linking and inclusion of new voters, and ensure accurate data collection. Each BLO is expected to make at least three visits to each household to gather details.

Citizens can also complete the process online through the Election Commission’s portal at https://voters.eci.gov.in, where they can submit the Enumeration Form and verify their details. Only the EF is required for enumeration; no additional documents need to be collected at this stage.

A parallel meeting chaired by Shri L. Kumar, IAS, Chief Electoral Officer (A&N Islands), was held at the Secretariat, attended by the DEO (South Andaman), Joint CEO, and Deputy CEO. The CEO emphasized the importance of the exercise, noting that the last Special Intensive Revision was conducted in 2002, and assured that the election machinery is fully prepared to implement the ECI guidelines.

Political parties were urged to appoint Booth Level Agents (BLAs) to coordinate with BLOs, assist electors, and verify voter details. A live demonstration of the online voter verification process was also held to familiarize participants with the ECI’s digital platforms.

The CEO appealed to both political parties and citizens to extend full cooperation to field officials. He reiterated that the SIR process is crucial for maintaining accurate and transparent electoral rolls, which form the backbone of free and fair elections.
