A South Andaman court has sentenced a man to 20 years rigorous imprisonment for the rape of a four-year-old child, following a meticulous investigation and prosecution under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
The case, registered at Ograbraj Police Station in 2022 against accused Kishov Ojha, was investigated by Sub-Inspector Arti Roy under the supervision of then Station House Officer SI Devanand Pathak. The police team’s diligent efforts built a strong foundation for the prosecution.
On August 21, 2025, the Special Judge (POCSO), Sri Vijaya Puram, convicted Ojha and sentenced him to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment along with a fine of ₹10,000. The court also directed the State Government to pay ₹1,00,000 as compensation to the child victim.
Special Public Prosecutor (POCSO), Ms. Tasneem of Sri Vijaya Puram, played a key role in presenting compelling arguments that led to the conviction. Officials said the synergy between professional investigation and effective courtroom advocacy ensured justice for the survivor.
The verdict was described as a reaffirmation of the impartiality and strength of the judicial process, highlighting the combined efforts of law enforcement and legal professionals in combating crimes against children.
Authorities noted that the resolution of the case underscores the importance of swift, scientific, and collaborative approaches in handling sensitive offences. The South Andaman District Police reiterated their commitment to protecting vulnerable groups and upholding the rule of law.
The judgment is also seen as a strong deterrent message in the fight against sexual crimes, particularly those involving children, where strict enforcement of the POCSO Act is crucial.
