South Andaman Police Seize 144 Litres of Illicit Liquor, 20 Arrested

A series of enforcement raids carried out across South Andaman district over the past two weeks has led to the seizure of 144.18 litres of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) and 10 kilograms of Handia, with 20 individuals apprehended for alleged involvement in illegal liquor trade.

The operations were conducted by the South Andaman District Police as part of an intensified campaign against bootlegging and unlawful sale of alcohol in different parts of the district. Police teams carried out coordinated raids in multiple areas under South Andaman’s jurisdiction during the enforcement drive.

During the operations, officers recovered the illicit liquor and detained individuals suspected of selling and distributing alcohol without authorization. A total of 20 First Information Reports (FIRs) have been registered at various police stations across the district in connection with the cases.

The seized liquor was taken into custody at the locations where it was recovered after completing the required legal procedures. Cases have been registered under the provisions of the Excise Regulation Act, which governs the production, sale and distribution of alcoholic beverages.

The enforcement drive forms part of continuing efforts by the district police to control the illegal liquor trade and prevent unlawful distribution networks from operating within local communities. Illegal sale and circulation of liquor remains a concern due to its potential impact on law and order as well as social stability.

Police teams have increased monitoring across several areas through regular patrolling, surprise checks and targeted raids. These measures are aimed at identifying locations where illegal storage, transportation or sale of liquor may be taking place.

Repeated inspections and intelligence-based operations are being carried out to detect unauthorized liquor activities and dismantle supply channels involved in bootlegging. The district police have been maintaining heightened vigilance in areas where such activities are suspected.

The South Andaman District Police has appealed to residents to assist in the ongoing drive against illegal liquor trade by sharing information related to the unlawful sale, storage or transportation of alcohol.

Members of the public can report information through emergency and control room numbers including 112 (ERSS), the Police Control Room at 03192-232100, and the Superintendent of Police (District) South Andaman office at 03192-236641.

Information provided by the public will be treated confidentially, and individuals sharing credible inputs may receive suitable rewards. Community participation is expected to help authorities detect violations at an early stage and strengthen enforcement efforts.

The district police continue to conduct raids and monitoring drives in different parts of South Andaman to prevent illegal liquor activities and ensure compliance with excise laws. Sustained enforcement and public cooperation remain central to the effort to curb unlawful liquor trade and maintain public order across the district.
