The enforcement action follows directions from Lieutenant Governor Dinesh Sharma to strengthen efforts against narcotics and work towards drug-free Islands. Police said teams across South Andaman have carried out coordinated raids and searches at different locations as part of action against the possession, sale and distribution of narcotic substances.

Alongside enforcement, authorities have conducted 298 awareness programmes across South Andaman during the year to sensitise the public, particularly young people, about the harmful effects of narcotic drug consumption.

Police said the operations have included regular raids, surprise checks, intelligence-based action and intensified patrolling. The department said it would continue enforcement against drug-related activities under its stated zero-tolerance approach.

The district police have also appealed to residents to share credible information about illegal activities and the sale of narcotic substances. Information can be provided through the Emergency Response Support System at 112, the Police Control Room at 03192-232100, the Narcotics Helpline at 9531856080 or the SP (D) South Andaman office at 03192-236641.
