South Andaman Cracks Down on Unauthorized Earth Dumping and Mining

Date:

The District Administration of South Andaman has taken decisive action against violators engaged in illegal extraction and dumping of earth, reinforcing its stance against activities that contravene Land Revenue Regulations and Mines and Mineral Rules.

In a recent field inspection at Austinabad village, revenue officials uncovered unauthorized operations involving the extraction and transportation of earth. The material, estimated to be around 25 cubic meters, was later found dumped at Brichgunj village. Authorities confirmed that the violators had not secured the necessary permissions required for such activity.

Responding to the breach, the administration imposed a fine of ₹50,000 on those involved. Officials stressed that such violations directly undermine legal safeguards designed to protect land resources and regulate material movement in the district. The action signals the administration’s commitment to clamp down on practices that threaten regulatory compliance.

The Deputy Commissioner of South Andaman has cautioned individuals and groups against indulging in illegal mining, unauthorized earth transportation, and dumping activities. Emphasizing zero tolerance, the administration reiterated that strict penal action will follow any attempt to bypass established regulations. Those found guilty will be held accountable under the law.

At the same time, the District Administration reminded the general public of their role in safeguarding resources and adhering to legal provisions related to land use, mining, and material transportation. Residents have been urged to remain vigilant and cooperate by reporting any suspicious activities linked to illegal dumping, mining, or transportation of earth and minerals.

To facilitate timely reporting, the administration has made available dedicated helpline numbers, 03192-240127, 238881, and 1070, as well as a WhatsApp line at 9531888844. The administration further assured that the identity of individuals providing information will remain strictly confidential, thereby ensuring their safety and encouraging greater community participation.

Through this action, the District Administration aims to send a clear message that attempts to engage in illegal extraction or material movement will not be tolerated. The imposition of penalties and the reinforcement of monitoring mechanisms are part of an ongoing effort to strengthen compliance and preserve lawful land use practices in South Andaman.

The administration maintains that the law will take its own course, and violators who continue to indulge in such activities will face consequences in accordance with existing rules.
