The District Administration of South Andaman has organised a series of grievance redressal and service delivery camps across villages and community halls as part of the nationwide Good Governance Week campaign, aimed at bringing administration closer to citizens.
The week-long campaign, being observed from December 19 to 25 under the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances initiative ‘Prashasan Gaon Ki Ore’, focuses on decentralised governance, transparency and timely resolution of public grievances. Multiple events are being conducted across the district to provide government services at the doorstep of residents.
As part of the programme, grievance redressal camps were organised at Gram Panchayat Wandoor, Chouldhari Community Hall and Sippighat Community Hall. The camps witnessed participation from residents, panchayat representatives and officials from various departments, with applications and grievances being addressed on the spot.
At Wandoor, the camp was held under the supervision of the Assistant Commissioner, South Andaman, and attended by elected representatives of the gram panchayat. Residents raised issues related to public services, documentation and local administration. During the camp, certificates including income and Other Backward Class certificates were issued, and no-objection certificates were provided to the panchayat for government works.
A similar camp court was conducted at Chouldhari Community Hall under the chairmanship of the Assistant Commissioner (Settlement), with participation from elected representatives of the area. The camp saw considerable turnout from local residents seeking redressal of grievances related to land records and administrative services. During the camp, multiple documents and certificates, including income certificates, OBC certificates, Other Revenue reports and mutation-related records, were issued to members of the public.
Another camp court was organised at Sippighat Community Hall, chaired by the Tehsildar, Sri Vijaya Puram. Residents attended the camp to raise issues related to land and revenue matters. During the proceedings, mutation orders were issued and a surrender order was processed, reflecting on-the-spot service delivery.
Officials overseeing the camps stated that grievances raised during the interactions were heard patiently and directions were issued to concerned departments for time-bound resolution. The camps were aimed at reducing the need for citizens to travel to district offices and ensuring quicker access to essential government services.
The Good Governance Week campaign is being conducted in line with the broader vision of decentralised administration, with emphasis on accountability, responsiveness and citizen-centric governance. By holding camps at village and community levels, the district administration sought to ensure that government mechanisms remain accessible to all sections of society.
The district administration reiterated its commitment to addressing public grievances promptly and ensuring that the benefits of governance reach even the remotest areas of South Andaman. Officials indicated that feedback from these camps will also be used to improve service delivery mechanisms and identify systemic issues requiring administrative intervention.
The campaign will continue through December 25, with additional activities planned to reinforce the objectives of transparent and responsive governance across the district.
