The District Administration of South Andaman carried out a major eviction operation on October 13 at North Bay village and Bambooflat, targeting unauthorized occupation of Government land. The drive aimed to reclaim public property and reinforce the Administration’s strict stance against encroachments.
At North Bay village, authorities identified a significant encroachment on land under the possession of the Andaman Public Works Department (APWD). The Administration successfully evicted the illegal occupants, clearing an area of 500 square meters. The reclaimed land was subsequently handed over to APWD officials for protection and future use.
In a parallel operation at Bambooflat, the Revenue Department, with active support from the Police Department and field staff, removed an unauthorized shed structure erected near the Tsunami Shelter. The action restored 1,000 square meters of Government land to its original state, reinforcing the Administration’s commitment to safeguarding public property.
The Deputy Commissioner, South Andaman, emphasized the Administration’s zero-tolerance policy towards encroachments on Government land and urged citizens to refrain from any unauthorized occupation. The Administration warned that strict legal action would be taken against individuals attempting to occupy public property illegally in the future.
Authorities also encouraged the public to report any instances of encroachment or illegal occupation. Citizens can communicate complaints or inquiries to the District Control Room via phone numbers 03192-240127, 238881, 1070, or WhatsApp at 9531888844. The Administration assured that the identity of informants would remain confidential to protect individuals providing information.
The recent operations reflect the Administration’s proactive approach in protecting Government assets, ensuring compliance with legal frameworks, and maintaining orderly land management. By coordinating efforts across departments, including the APWD, Revenue, and Police, the Administration demonstrated a systematic strategy to prevent unauthorized encroachments.
Officials noted that such eviction drives are part of ongoing efforts to maintain transparency, uphold property rights, and facilitate the proper utilization of Government land for public and developmental purposes. The reclaimed areas are expected to be used for community projects, infrastructure development, and other official functions under APWD oversight.
The Administration reaffirmed that consistent monitoring and timely action would continue to safeguard public assets, ensuring that Government property remains accessible and secure for its intended use.
This latest initiative underscores the Administration’s commitment to legal enforcement, public accountability, and the protection of civic infrastructure in South Andaman.
