The South Andaman district administration carried out a fresh eviction drive at Govindapuram and Shoal Bay villages under Ferrargunj tehsil, continuing efforts to remove encroachments from government land and public roads. The operation was undertaken as part of an ongoing campaign to safeguard public property and restore land for its intended public use.
The eviction drive followed similar operations conducted earlier in the area, indicating a sustained administrative approach towards addressing unauthorised occupation of government land. Revenue field functionaries assisted in carrying out the operation, which was conducted in an orderly manner to ensure minimal disruption while achieving the intended objectives.
During the drive, encroachments on government land as well as obstructions on government roads were identified and removed. The clearance of these obstructions was aimed at restoring free and safe movement for the public, particularly in areas where road access had been restricted due to illegal occupation.

As a result of the operation, approximately 0.20 hectares of government land was retrieved and restored to government control. The administration stated that the removal of encroachments would enable the land to be utilised for its designated public purposes, in line with legal and planning provisions.
The eviction drive was conducted smoothly, with officials ensuring adherence to due process while carrying out the removals. The administration emphasised that such actions are necessary to protect public infrastructure and prevent further unauthorised occupation that could hinder development and public access.
The district administration reiterated its commitment to protecting government land and public assets from encroachment. It appealed to the general public to refrain from illegal occupation of government property, warning that unauthorised use of public land would invite action in accordance with the law.
The administration also indicated that eviction drives would continue in a sustained manner to ensure compliance with legal provisions and to safeguard public interest. Such operations are expected to be undertaken wherever encroachments are identified, following established procedures.
To encourage public participation in reporting encroachments, the district administration has made available multiple contact numbers through the district control room. Members of the public have been invited to communicate information or complaints related to unauthorised occupation of government land or public infrastructure.
The administration assured that the identity of individuals providing information would be kept confidential to protect them from any potential repercussions. This measure is intended to facilitate cooperation from the public in identifying encroachments and supporting enforcement efforts.
The eviction drive forms part of broader administrative measures aimed at ensuring orderly development, protecting public resources, and maintaining accessibility of government land and infrastructure for community use across South Andaman.
