The District Administration, South Andaman, has intensified efforts to protect public property and preserve community spaces by carrying out a major eviction drive to remove encroachments on government land in parts of the district.
As part of the ongoing enforcement action, a large-scale eviction operation was conducted at Austinabad and Brookshabad villages. Revenue officials removed illegal fencing and temporary structures that had been erected on government revenue land, restoring a substantial area to its original condition.
According to official sources, the drive resulted in the removal of fencing and four temporary structures at Austinabad village, along with two temporary structures at Brookshabad village. In total, approximately 4,500 square metres of government revenue land were cleared of encroachments during the operation.
Officials said the action forms part of a sustained campaign by the District Administration to monitor government land and reclaim it from unauthorised occupation by unscrupulous elements. Authorities noted that strict vigilance has been maintained over the past few days, leading to multiple enforcement actions aimed at preventing the misuse of public property.

The administration has warned residents against engaging in unauthorised occupation of government land. Officials said stringent legal action will be initiated against those found violating land use regulations, in accordance with existing laws.
To strengthen public participation in safeguarding government land, the District Administration, South Andaman, has put in place multiple channels for citizens to report encroachments or illegal constructions. In addition, members of the public have been encouraged to share information via WhatsApp at 9531888844. Officials have assured that all reports will be handled with absolute confidentiality to protect the identity and privacy of individuals who come forward with information.
Authorities said the involvement of local residents is crucial in identifying unauthorised activities at an early stage and preventing further encroachment on government land. The administration has urged citizens to remain vigilant and cooperate with enforcement agencies to ensure public land is used lawfully and for community benefit.
Officials further stated that the eviction drive will continue in the coming days as part of a sustained effort to reclaim government land across the district. The administration reiterated its commitment to ensuring proper utilisation of public property and maintaining community spaces for legitimate purposes.
