The South Andaman District Administration intensified its ongoing campaign against encroachments on government land, reclaiming revenue land following eviction operations carried out in multiple villages on February 28. The action forms part of a sustained effort to preserve community spaces and ensure lawful use of public property across the district.
According to official information, eviction operations were conducted in Brookshabad, School Line and Austinabad villages as part of the continued vigilance being maintained by the administration. Revenue officials removed various encroachments during the drive, including fencing and six unauthorised structures. These comprised four temporary structures and two temporary structures that were still under construction at the time of the operation.
As a result of the eviction, an area measuring approximately 2,000 square metres of government revenue land was reclaimed and restored to government khata. Officials stated that the reclaimed land had been under unauthorised occupation and was retrieved following due monitoring and enforcement action.
The administration reiterated that it is maintaining a zero-tolerance policy towards encroachments on government land. It was emphasised that any unauthorised occupation, construction or fencing on public land would invite stringent legal action under the relevant provisions of law, irrespective of the nature or duration of the encroachment.
Officials associated with the drive noted that the eviction operations are being conducted after sustained surveillance and verification of land records. The objective, they said, is to protect public assets and ensure that government land is used strictly for designated public purposes.
Residents have been strongly urged to refrain from unauthorised occupation of government land, with the administration cautioning that violators will face legal consequences. The district administration also appealed to the public to cooperate with enforcement agencies and avoid activities that may lead to eviction proceedings.
To strengthen public participation in identifying and preventing encroachments, the South Andaman District Administration has provided multiple channels for citizens to report illegal occupation or construction on government land. Members of the public can contact the District Control Room through designated phone numbers or share information via WhatsApp.
Officials assured that all reports received from citizens will be handled with absolute confidentiality, ensuring the privacy and safety of individuals who come forward with information. The administration indicated that public cooperation plays a critical role in safeguarding government land from encroachment.
The district administration further stated that eviction drives will continue in the coming days as part of its broader strategy to protect public property and restore encroached land for community use. The ongoing operations reflect the administration’s resolve to enforce land laws and maintain orderly development across South Andaman.
