DC South Andaman Reviews Development Works at Kanyapuram Gram Panchayat

Deputy Commissioner of South Andaman, Arjun Sharma, IAS, conducted a field visit to Kanyapuram Gram Panchayat to review ongoing and recently completed rural development initiatives aimed at improving infrastructure and community welfare in the region.

During the visit, the Deputy Commissioner inspected and inaugurated key infrastructure projects, including the newly constructed Cement Concrete (CC) road and renovation works of the existing blacktop road, which now include proper drainage facilities. These works were executed under the Rural Development Department as part of the Administration’s broader efforts to enhance rural connectivity, strengthen road safety, and ensure effective stormwater management for residents.

The Deputy Commissioner also reviewed progress on several other development activities within the panchayat, emphasizing the Administration’s focus on sustainable rural growth. The new CC road and renovated blacktop road are expected to improve accessibility within the village and provide safer transport routes, particularly during the monsoon season.

In addition to the road projects, an area of 0.0110 hectares has been allocated for the construction of a new Anganwadi Centre at Kanyapuram. The proposed centre will serve as a key facility under the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) Scheme, catering to the nutritional, educational, and healthcare needs of children and mothers in the locality. The initiative aligns with the Administration’s objective of promoting early childhood care and maternal health in rural areas.

Arjun Sharma commended the efforts of the Gram Panchayat and field functionaries for their proactive role in implementing government schemes. He highlighted the importance of continuous monitoring to ensure the quality and timely completion of development works. The Deputy Commissioner stressed that effective coordination between panchayat representatives and administrative officials is crucial to maintaining the momentum of rural progress.

As part of his visit, he interacted with local residents and elected representatives to gather feedback on the completed and ongoing projects. Residents shared their experiences and raised suggestions to further improve civic amenities and infrastructure in the area. The Deputy Commissioner assured them of continued administrative support in addressing public concerns and strengthening development at the grassroots level.

The visit reflects the Administration’s commitment to inclusive rural development through community participation and regular review of field-level initiatives. By focusing on infrastructure improvement, social welfare, and early childhood development, the South Andaman District Administration continues to drive forward its goal of ensuring sustainable and equitable growth across the island’s rural landscape.
