Authorities in Dera Ismail Khan impose Section 144 and restrict movement across several roads and sensitive areas in the city as part of measures to maintain law and order. The directive comes amid heightened security concerns in the region, according to an official notification issued by the district administration.
The restrictions apply from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. local time, during which passenger vehicles, cargo transport and motorcycles are barred from operating in designated zones. Local officials say the temporary measures aim to ensure public safety and maintain order in the district.
Abdul Nasir Khan, the deputy commissioner of Dera Ismail Khan, confirms that the administration introduces the restrictions in response to the prevailing security situation. Authorities direct residents to comply with the orders and cooperate with law enforcement personnel deployed in the area.
According to details reported by Dawn, several major roads remain closed during the restriction period. The Dera–Tank Road, from Tariq Shaheed to Bhugowal, remains shut. Other affected routes include Kulachi–Hathala Road, Kot Attal Road and Garah Abdullah Road.
In addition to these routes, authorities close a number of link roads connecting nearby localities. The Tikwarah–Hathala Road, Pota Badh, Kanori–Garah Mohabbat route, Chehkan village to Darbari road and the Pota–Kot Isa Khan link road remain inaccessible during the restriction period.
Officials also order the closure of Pota Hathala Bazaar between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m., further tightening security measures across the district.
Despite the restrictions, emergency services remain exempt. Law enforcement agencies, ambulances and fire brigade vehicles continue to operate to ensure essential services remain available.
Authorities say that limited movement may be permitted in exceptional situations, provided individuals obtain approval from police or security personnel stationed in the affected areas.
Residents travelling on public roads are instructed to carry valid identification documents and follow directions issued by law enforcement officials. Security personnel monitor compliance with the restrictions throughout the day.
Officials state that the measures aim to prevent any untoward incidents and maintain stability in the district.
Earlier, on February 28, authorities impose Section 144 in several parts of Dera Ismail Khan as part of broader security arrangements. The step follows rising tensions along the border between Pakistan and Afghanistan.
The latest security measures come after a series of developments that increase hostilities between the two countries. The current round of conflict begins when Taliban-led Afghan forces launch retaliatory operations against Pakistani military installations on February 27.
The attacks follow Pakistan’s earlier military action on February 21 targeting individuals inside Afghan territory. In response to the Afghan operations, Pakistan launches a military campaign known as Operation Ghazab lil-Haq.
Authorities in Dera Ismail Khan say the restrictions remain necessary to safeguard residents and maintain order while the broader security situation in the region continues to evolve.
