Sky Show, Bubble Show Planned at Science Centre on Corbyn’s Cove Road

The Science Centre located at Goodwill Estate on Corbyn’s Cove Road has planned to conduct a series of special programmes for general visitors on March 14 and March 15 during evening hours, offering a mix of astronomy demonstrations, science entertainment and visual learning experiences.

The programmes are designed to engage visitors of different age groups while promoting public interest in science and astronomy through interactive demonstrations and themed shows. According to the schedule released by the centre, the events will include a sky observation session, a bubble demonstration, a light and sound presentation titled Jurassic Park and a 3D show.

The sky show will be conducted between 5.30 pm and 7.00 pm on both days. During the programme, visitors will receive a sky map illustrating the night sky visible over Sri Vijaya Puram. The map will assist participants in identifying planets and other celestial objects visible during the observation session.

Visitors attending the sky show will also have an opportunity to observe the planet Jupiter through a powerful telescope. The session will include the viewing of Jupiter’s four largest moons, Io, Europa, Ganymede, and Callisto, which are collectively known as the Galilean Moons. The demonstration aims to provide a practical introduction to basic astronomical observation.

Another programme scheduled for the evening is the bubble show, which will be conducted at 6.45 pm. The show is designed as a family-oriented science demonstration intended to entertain visitors while explaining simple physical principles through visual experiments.

During the bubble demonstration, the presenter will create a variety of bubble formations ranging from very small bubbles to large bubbles. The demonstration will also feature themed bubbles including shapes inspired by popular cartoon characters, cubic bubbles, caterpillar-shaped bubbles and fire bubbles.

Organisers said the bubble show has been structured to appeal particularly to children while allowing families to participate together in the activity. The presentation combines elements of entertainment with educational explanations related to bubble formation and surface tension.

The programme schedule also includes the Jurassic Park light and sound show, which will begin at 6.15 pm. The presentation will use visual effects and sound to illustrate the evolution of life on Earth across different geological eras.

Through the combination of narration, lighting and sound effects, visitors will witness a representation of how life evolved through various periods of Earth’s history. The show is intended to provide an engaging method of explaining scientific concepts related to the history of life on the planet.

In addition to these events, the Science Centre will also conduct a 3D show at two time slots, 5.30 pm and 6.45 pm. The 3D presentation forms part of the centre’s educational programming designed to present scientific themes using immersive visual technology.

Officials said the programmes are open to the general public, with nominal entry charges fixed for each show. The sky show and bubble show will have an entry fee of Rs.10 per person for each programme. The 3D show and the Jurassic Park light and sound show will have an entry fee of Rs.20 per person for each programme.

The Science Centre said the programmes aim to provide visitors with an opportunity to explore science through observation, demonstrations and visual storytelling while making scientific learning accessible and engaging for the public.

By hosting these special sessions, the centre seeks to encourage curiosity about science and astronomy among residents and visitors while creating an interactive learning environment in Sri Vijaya Puram.
