Sri Vijaya Puram, May 4: The Holiday Camp-2026, organized by the Science Centre at Goodwill Estate in Sri Vijaya Puram, commenced today with enthusiastic participation from 115 students representing both government and private schools across the region. The month-long programme aims to foster scientific curiosity and practical learning among young minds.
The camp was formally inaugurated by Dr. Jai Sunder, Director of the Central Islands Agricultural Research Institute, who emphasized the growing importance of science in addressing modern-day challenges. In his inaugural address, he highlighted how scientific thinking and innovation are essential for building a progressive and sustainable society.
Dr. Jai Sunder also commended the Science Centre for its continued efforts in organizing educational initiatives such as the holiday camp. He noted that such programmes play a vital role in nurturing scientific temperament among students from an early age, encouraging them to think critically and explore beyond textbook learning.
Providing an overview of the camp, Dr. Manu Vashishtha, Curator of the Science Centre, stated that the programme has been designed to offer a diverse range of engaging activities. These include hands-on scientific experiments, interactive sessions with experts, and exposure trips aimed at giving students real-world insights into science and technology.
He added that the camp’s structure is intended to make learning both enjoyable and meaningful, allowing participants to develop problem-solving skills, creativity, and a deeper understanding of scientific concepts through practical application.
Earlier, in his welcome address, Shri Debashis Paul, Education Officer at the Science Centre, informed that a total of 115 students have enrolled in the camp this year. He noted that participants come from diverse educational backgrounds, creating a dynamic environment for collaborative learning and idea exchange.
The Holiday Camp-2026 will continue until May 31, 2026, featuring a carefully curated schedule of activities spread over several weeks. Organizers have ensured that the programme balances academic enrichment with interactive and recreational elements, making it an engaging experience for all participants.
Officials highlighted that the camp also aims to build confidence among students by encouraging them to present ideas, participate in group discussions, and engage in hands-on problem-solving exercises. Exposure visits planned during the camp are expected to further enhance students’ understanding by connecting theoretical knowledge with practical applications.
The initiative reflects the broader vision of promoting science education and innovation among youth in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. By providing such platforms, the Science Centre continues to contribute to the development of future scientists, researchers, and informed citizens.
With an encouraging start and strong participation, the Holiday Camp-2026 is set to become a valuable learning experience, inspiring students to explore the wonders of science while equipping them with skills essential for the future.
