SBI-RSETI to Train Unemployed Graduates in Book Keeping and Accounts

SBI-RSETI, Sri Vijaya Puram, has announced a free 38-day training programme in Book Keeping and Accountancy for unemployed graduates across the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, offering a significant skill development opportunity at a time when demand for financial literacy and basic accounting skills is steadily rising. The programme, organised under the guidelines of the Ministry of Rural Development (MoRD), Government of India, is scheduled to begin in the third week of December 2025.

According to the institute, the training aims to equip jobseekers with essential accounting knowledge that can help them secure employment in small businesses, accounting firms and self-employment ventures. The programme is open to unemployed graduates below the age of 45, with a limited number of seats allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. Priority will be given to candidates from Below Poverty Line and Scheduled Tribe backgrounds, along with members of Self Help Groups registered under the National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM).

SBI-RSETI (Rural Self Employment Training Institute) has been conducting skill-oriented courses in various trades over the years, and officials believe that the current batch is crucial for developing employable talent in the financial services sector. With increasing emphasis on digital transactions, GST compliance and business accounting, the institute expects the programme to benefit participants seeking structured training in accountancy.

The sessions will be held at the SBI-RSETI training centre located on the second floor of the SBI Regional Business Office in Mohanpura, Aberdeen Bazaar. Participants will receive hands-on training in maintaining ledgers, book keeping practices, preparation of basic financial statements and other foundational modules relevant to small business accounting. The curriculum is designed to suit beginners, ensuring accessibility for candidates with minimal prior exposure to formal financial systems.

Officials at the institute said the training would follow a mix of classroom lessons and practical exercises to familiarise candidates with real-world accounting scenarios. Apart from technical skills, the programme will also focus on work discipline, financial ethics and the fundamentals of managing small business accounts, skills that can support self-employment as well as employment in various local enterprises.

Candidates interested in enrolling have been advised to contact the institute directly through its landline (03192-236723) or mobile numbers (9933215939, 9933246046) for registration and additional details. Given the limited seats and expected demand, SBI-RSETI has asked applicants to complete the registration process at the earliest to avoid missing the admission window.

The programme is part of a wider national initiative to promote rural and semi-urban skill development. Across the country, RSETIs have been instrumental in training lakhs of youth in employment-oriented skills and supporting livelihood advancement, particularly in regions with limited access to professional training avenues. In Sri Vijaya Puram, where employment opportunities are shaped by tourism, retail and small trade sectors, basic accounting skills are increasingly regarded as essential for job readiness.

Participants who successfully complete the course will receive a certificate from SBI-RSETI, which may support their applications for jobs in the private sector or help them pursue self-employment ventures like bookkeeping services or small business financial support roles. The emphasis on practical skill-building is expected to enhance employability and improve confidence among young graduates navigating a competitive job market.

Local educators and officials have welcomed the initiative, saying it aligns with the region’s growing requirement for accounting skills in small enterprises and administrative setups. With the training scheduled to begin shortly, the institute is gearing up to accommodate the new batch and ensure that the programme is delivered with comprehensive support.

SBI-RSETI has urged eligible graduates to enrol promptly, emphasising that the initiative is designed to bridge a crucial skill gap while providing accessible training at no cost.
