The District Administration of North and Middle Andaman organised a public grievance redressal programme at Borang village on December 13 under the flagship outreach initiative “Sampark se Samadhan – Prashashan Gaon ki Ore,” aimed at taking governance to remote and underserved communities.
The programme was held at the Government Primary School in Borang and was chaired by the Deputy Commissioner, North and Middle Andaman. The initiative sought to provide villagers with direct access to senior officials and representatives of line departments to raise civic, developmental and service-related issues.
To reach Borang, a remote village with challenging terrain, the administrative team undertook a trek of nearly one and a half hours through dense forest and uneven paths. Officials described the journey as part of the administration’s effort to ensure that geographical barriers do not prevent residents from accessing government services and grievance redressal mechanisms.
During the interaction, villagers raised multiple concerns related to essential civic amenities and local development. Each grievance was heard in the presence of officials from relevant departments, enabling coordinated responses and immediate clarification of issues.
Several matters were resolved on the spot through departmental intervention, while issues requiring further coordination or higher-level approvals were documented for follow-up action. Officials stated that time-bound steps would be taken to address pending grievances.
Borang, which has a population of around 130 residents including children, witnessed active participation from the entire community. Residents attended the programme in large numbers and engaged directly with officials, highlighting issues affecting daily life in the village.
The administration noted that such outreach programmes are particularly significant for small and remote settlements where access to offices and officials is limited. By physically reaching the village, the administration aimed to build trust and ensure that governance mechanisms remain accessible to all sections of the population.
Residents expressed satisfaction with the initiative, noting that the opportunity to raise concerns directly with senior officials reduced delays and improved transparency in addressing issues. The programme also allowed officials to gain first-hand insight into local conditions and priorities.
The “Sampark se Samadhan – Prashashan Gaon ki Ore” initiative continues to be used as a platform to bridge the gap between the administration and the public, with a focus on inclusive governance and responsive service delivery across North and Middle Andaman.
