The Rural Self Employment Training Institute (RSETI), Sri Vijaya Puram, successfully concluded a 35-day junior beauty practitioner (Laghu Udyami) training programme for 34 women trainees from across the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The programme aimed to equip women with practical skills in beauty parlour services while also providing knowledge on business management, financial literacy, and social security schemes.
During the training, participants received hands-on instruction in beauty services, including skincare, haircare, and makeup application. The curriculum also emphasized entrepreneurial skills, such as managing a beauty parlour, handling finances, and customer service. Field visits were arranged to provide trainees with practical insights into operational aspects of running a beauty business.
The programme also included awareness sessions on cyber fraud prevention, MUDRA loan opportunities, and social security schemes to support financial and occupational empowerment. These sessions aimed to equip the participants with tools to become financially independent and contribute to local economic growth.
Regional Manager of SBI, Santosh Sahu, addressed the trainees during the programme, highlighting the importance of financial independence and encouraging participants to leverage the skills learned for entrepreneurship. Chief Manager of UTLBC, P K Ummer Farooq, and AGM of NABARD, Prathap, also interacted with the trainees, emphasizing the role of skill development in fostering self-reliance and community development.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by the Director of RSETI, C Raj, who appreciated the participation and engagement of the trainees. The training initiative reflects ongoing efforts to promote women’s empowerment and skill development in the Islands, aligning with broader goals of economic inclusion and vocational growth.
The 35-day course at RSETI Sri Vijaya Puram forms part of the institute’s continued commitment to delivering industry-oriented skill development programmes that cater to emerging entrepreneurial opportunities for women. Participants expressed confidence in applying their newly acquired knowledge to establish or enhance beauty parlour services in their respective communities.
This initiative is expected to strengthen local entrepreneurship, provide livelihood opportunities for women across the Islands, and contribute to the overall socio-economic development of the region.
