A 10-day training programme on mushroom cultivation organised by the State Bank of India Rural Self Employment Training Institute (RSETI), Sri Vijaya Puram, concluded at Hope Town Panchayat with participation from around 35 women associated with National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM) Self Help Groups. The programme was conducted with support from the Directorate of Agriculture and ran from January 30 until its conclusion today.
The initiative was designed to impart practical knowledge on mushroom cultivation while encouraging income-generation opportunities among rural women. Participants underwent structured sessions focused on cultivation techniques as part of skill development efforts linked to self-employment promotion.

The training was organised under RSETI’s broader mandate of supporting entrepreneurship and livelihood enhancement through vocational skill programmes. The collaboration with the Directorate of Agriculture formed part of institutional support aimed at strengthening agricultural-based income opportunities.
During the valedictory function, P K Ummer Farooq, Chief Manager, UTLBC Lead Bank, congratulated the participants for completing the course. Addressing the trainees, he emphasised the potential for financial independence through mushroom cultivation and encouraged them to utilise the acquired skills to generate income.
C Raj, Director of the institute, acknowledged the initiative taken by the participants in undergoing the training. He noted their effort to learn mushroom cultivation as a means to supplement family income while continuing household responsibilities.
The programme brought together women linked to NRLM Self Help Groups, reflecting ongoing efforts to integrate livelihood training with community-based economic initiatives. The training concluded with a formal valedictory session attended by institutional representatives.
Naveen Rajkumar, faculty member of the institute, delivered the vote of thanks at the closing ceremony. The completion of the training marks another skill development effort conducted by RSETI in collaboration with agricultural authorities.
The programme focused on capacity building in mushroom cultivation as a livelihood option, with the aim of enabling participants to explore income-generating activities through agricultural entrepreneurship.
