Sri Vijaya Puram, May 5
The District Magistrate of South Andaman has announced major traffic restrictions starting May 6 as resurfacing work gets underway on two busy road stretches, aiming to improve road conditions but causing temporary commuter disruptions.
The first affected stretch runs from Anganwadi Junction Birsa Nagar to Bal Niketan via Attam Pahad. According to the official notification, half of this road will be closed between May 6 and May 20, from 6 am to 6 pm daily. During these hours, only one lane will be operational, and motorists are urged to drive carefully and follow traffic management directions.
The second project will completely shut down the stretch from Pattargudda-IV to the Prothrapur Check Post. This closure will last from May 6 to May 10, also from 6 am to 6 pm. Vehicles will be diverted to alternate routes, and drivers should factor in additional travel time to avoid delays.
Officials have requested public cooperation, stressing that these upgrades are essential for long-term road safety and smoother commutes. The resurfacing is part of a larger district initiative to improve key public infrastructure and reduce hazards caused by potholes, worn asphalt, and surface cracks.
Commuters are advised to stay updated on the diversion plans, leave earlier for work or appointments, and avoid the affected routes if possible during the closure period. Authorities will have personnel on the ground to guide traffic and ensure minimal disruption.
Residents are reminded that short-term inconvenience is the price for long-term improvements, and the administration appreciates public patience and understanding as these essential upgrades are completed.
