Main Road to Chanakya Tuition Centre Closed for Construction from Oct 31

The District Magistrate of South Andaman has announced a temporary closure of the main road leading to Chanakya Tuition Centre at School Line Junction from October 31 to November 7, 2025. The decision, issued under the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, and in accordance with the Administration’s 2008 notification, is aimed at facilitating road construction work and ensuring public safety during the project’s execution.

According to the official notice, vehicular traffic will be restricted along the stretch for seven days while repair and resurfacing activities are carried out. To manage traffic flow during the closure, vehicles will be diverted from Chanakya Tuition Centre towards Ranchi Basti via Little Angle Clinic. The administration has urged motorists to cooperate with traffic authorities and follow the diversion plan to avoid inconvenience.

The road segment, located at a busy junction in the School Line area, is a key link used by students, residents, and commuters traveling between Ranchi Basti, Lamba Line, and nearby residential zones. The closure is expected to temporarily affect local traffic, but authorities say it is a necessary step to complete long-pending road development and improve the overall driving conditions in the area.

Once completed, the new surface is expected to enhance traffic safety and reduce congestion around the School Line Junction.

Residents and business owners in the area have been advised to plan alternative routes in advance. Public transport operators, including private buses and auto-rickshaws, have been informed of the diversion plan to ensure minimal disruption to daily commuters. Signage boards and barricades are expected to be placed at key points before the closure begins, with the Traffic Police coordinating movement to manage congestion at diversion points.

Officials have also appealed to the public to avoid parking near the construction zone to prevent obstruction of machinery and workers. They added that strict enforcement will be undertaken to ensure compliance with diversion orders and safety regulations. The administration emphasised that the temporary inconvenience is a necessary measure to achieve long-term road improvement and safety benefits.

The Motor Vehicles Act empowers district authorities to regulate and control traffic movement in public interest, especially during development or maintenance work. In this instance, the decision aligns with ongoing efforts to improve road infrastructure and minimise accidents caused by deteriorated surfaces.

For residents and students who use the route daily, the closure is likely to cause minor delays, particularly during school hours and office commute times. Traffic officials have also advised motorists to remain cautious and follow posted instructions near diversion points. The District Administration reiterated that public cooperation is essential to ensure smooth progress of the work.
