In a move aimed at diversifying tourism activities and boosting recreational options in Little Andaman, the Directorate of Information, Publicity & Tourism (IP&T), Andaman and Nicobar Administration, has initiated steps to introduce non-motorised water sports at the RK Pur Dam site.
The initiative follows a comprehensive risk assessment study conducted in coordination with the National Institute of Water Sports (NIWS), Goa, under the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India. Based on the findings and recommendations of the study, several non-motorised activities have been assessed as suitable and safe for operations at the dam.

The activities cleared for operation include kayaking, stand-up paddle boarding, paddle boats for sightseeing, rowing boats and aqua zorbing. Officials said the focus is on low-impact, eco-friendly recreation that aligns with safety norms while enhancing visitor experience at inland water destinations.
The Directorate has now invited applications from individuals, firms, agencies, entrepreneurs and other tourism stakeholders interested in operating these activities at RK Pur Dam, Little Andaman. Operators will be required to function strictly in accordance with prescribed safety guidelines and operational norms.
The step is part of a broader push to expand tourism beyond traditional beach and marine circuits, while ensuring that new attractions are introduced in a regulated and safety-compliant manner. By promoting non-motorised water sports, the administration aims to balance recreation with environmental sensitivity and sustainable tourism practices.
Interested applicants have been advised to submit their proposals to the Water-Sports Section of the Directorate of IP&T for further consideration.
