Rashtriya Indian Military College Opens Class VIII Admissions, June Exam Ahead

Applications have been invited for admission to Class VIII at the Rashtriya Indian Military College, Dehradun, with the written examination scheduled to be held on June 7, 2026. The admission process is open to both boys and girls who meet the prescribed academic and age eligibility criteria, according to details released by the authorities.

The eligibility conditions specify that candidates must either be studying in Class VII or have passed Class VII from a recognised school at the time of admission, which is set as January 1, 2027. In terms of age, applicants should be between 11½ and 13 years as on January 1, 2027. This means candidates should not have been born earlier than January 2, 2014, and not later than July 1, 2015. These criteria are mandatory, and applications not conforming to them are liable to be rejected.

Authorities have clarified that only application forms issued by RIMC will be considered valid. Locally printed or photocopied forms, as well as forms without the official RIMC hologram seal, will not be accepted under any circumstances. No refund of the application fee will be entertained once the process has begun, irrespective of the outcome or stage of rejection.

The prospectus-cum-application form and a booklet containing old question papers can be obtained directly from RIMC, Garhi Cantt, Dehradun. Candidates may access these materials by making an online payment through the official RIMC website. The application fee has been fixed at Rs 600 for general category candidates and Rs 555 for candidates belonging to the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe categories. On receipt of the online payment, the prospectus and application form, along with the question paper booklet, will be dispatched by speed post only.

Alternatively, candidates may request the application materials by post by sending a written request along with a demand draft of the prescribed amount. The demand draft must be drawn in favour of “The Commandant RIMC Fund” and payable at the specified HDFC Bank branch in Dehradun. Applicants belonging to SC or ST categories are required to enclose a valid caste certificate along with the demand draft to avail of the reduced fee.

The application process requires candidates to submit a set of mandatory documents. These include a birth certificate issued by a municipal corporation or gram panchayat, a domicile certificate of the candidate, and an SC or ST certificate where applicable. In addition, a certificate from the principal of the school in which the candidate is currently studying must be submitted in original. This certificate should carry an attested photograph and clearly state the candidate’s date of birth as per school records and the class in which the candidate is enrolled.

A photocopy of the candidate’s Aadhaar card, with both sides included, has been made a compulsory requirement. Authorities have cautioned that applications lacking this document will be rejected outright. Candidates are also required to submit two passport-size photographs along with the completed application form.

Completed application forms must reach the respective state governments, including the designated office at Sri Vijaya Puram, by April 5, 2026. Applicants have been specifically advised not to send their forms directly to RIMC in Dehradun, as such submissions will not be considered. The state government acts as the forwarding authority for all applications from the region.

The admission process at RIMC is regarded as highly competitive, with the institution known for preparing students for leadership roles in the armed forces and other services. Officials have advised parents and students to carefully adhere to the eligibility criteria, documentation requirements, and deadlines to avoid disqualification at later stages of the selection process.
