A training programme under the Rashtriya Gram Swaraj Abhiyan was conducted on February 20 at the Community Hall of Gram Panchayat Shyam Nagar in Swaraj Deep, with a focus on strengthening grassroots governance and enhancing coordination between Panchayati Raj Institutions and rural youth.
The programme was organised as part of ongoing capacity-building initiatives aimed at empowering elected representatives at the village level and reinforcing the institutional framework of local self-governance. The themes of the training included strengthening local governance through a clear understanding of the principles and objectives of Panchayati Raj Institutions, as well as fostering synergies between rural youth and PRIs for sustainable community development.
The session began with a welcome address by the Block Development Officer of Prothrapur, who highlighted the importance of informed and capable PRI members in delivering effective governance at the grassroots level. Emphasis was placed on the role of training programmes in improving decision-making, accountability and community participation in rural development processes.
Around 70 participants, including PRI members, attended the programme, reflecting sustained interest in governance-related capacity-building initiatives at the panchayat level. The diversity of participants was seen as a positive indicator of increasing awareness about the importance of structured local governance and youth involvement in development planning.
The resource person for the programme conducted an interactive session covering the constitutional framework of Panchayati Raj Institutions, their roles and responsibilities, and the objectives envisioned under decentralised governance. The session also addressed the need for effective coordination between elected representatives and rural youth to ensure inclusive and sustainable development outcomes.
Special emphasis was laid on encouraging youth participation in local governance processes, highlighting their potential contribution to planning, implementation and monitoring of development activities. Participants were sensitised to the importance of leveraging youth energy and ideas to address local challenges, improve service delivery and strengthen democratic participation at the village level.
The training adopted an interactive format, enabling participants to engage in discussions and seek clarifications on practical aspects of PRI functioning. Issues related to day-to-day administrative responsibilities, community mobilisation and coordination with development agencies were discussed in detail during the session.
Participants expressed appreciation for the practical orientation of the training, noting that the discussions helped clarify institutional roles and provided insights into strengthening collaboration between PRIs and the community. The programme also served as a platform for exchanging experiences and challenges faced in local governance.
The session concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by the Panchayat Secretary of Shyam Nagar, marking the end of the programme. Officials associated with the training indicated that such initiatives would continue as part of efforts to build stronger, more responsive Panchayati Raj Institutions capable of addressing local development needs effectively.
